It is hard to imagine that the CGLFC is hovering around its SIXTH year. Established in the late fall of 2003 - this forum has been a lot of fun and a great meeting place for friends, fans and information sharing. Over the years we have had our share of crashing, ups and downs and we are starting a new run today with the latest version of the PHPBB message board. When the site went down today I was hit with a very expensive option of hosting the site on a private server in order to avoid crashing due to the 500 spiderbots crawling our site at any given time. I went with a cheaper option - but it was a stark realization that there can be real costs involved in managing this thing along with all the upkeep time. Had a cheaper alternative not been available - friends the CGLFC message board would have died today. After we went down and came back up - some members have emailed and offered to make a donation just to contribute something. I have avoided this sort of thing for years now - and even now I am not, nor ever plan to require a donation or membership fee. The board will remain free - but for those that want to contribute it will be much appreciated.
This is what I have come up with to accommodate those that are wanting to contribute. Again - this is by no means required. For those that wish to contribute to maintain a board enjoyed by all - I wish to present a method of recognizing board supporters.
I've added a new member rank category, titled CGLFC Message Board Supporter. As most of you are aware, this board is not a commercial venture. Please feel free to enjoy the message board and promote your wares in the "for sale" section at no charge - but just realize the site as a whole is not hosted, maintained, nor updated for free. There have been many items sold here (up to, and including cars) and the CGLFC has never required a fee to do so (better deal than eBay!).
Supporters will be recognized by the addition of a title under their username (visible in each post they make) as follows:
